The expert spoke at the analytical business session "Leaders of the Agroindustrial Complex" organized by the VIC Group of Companies as part of the exhibition "MVC: Grain - Compound Feed - Veterinary - 2023".
Turkey breeding is a new sector of agriculture, the youngest branch of the Russian poultry industry, which began to fully develop in the last 15 years.
At the end of 2022, Russia's share in the global turkey market was 7% (415,000 tons of meat). This provided our country, which for the first time overtook the traditional leaders - Germany, Poland and France, first place in Europe and second in the world in terms of production. The United States remains the leader. Over the past decade, domestic turkey breeding has shown a five-fold increase (an average of 20% per year) - from 56 to 415 thousand tons.
According to Anatoly Velmatov, the Russian production market is quite structured - two manufacturers - Damate and Cherkizovo Group - occupy about 70%. Until 2030, the growth rate will remain at the level of 5-10%, as a result, a figure of 650 thousand tons per year will be reached.
Exports continue to grow. In 2022, it was equal to 26 thousand tons: 44% - delivered to African countries (Benin, DR Congo, Liberia, Angola), 35% - Asian countries (PRC, Hong Kong, Vietnam), 13% - Middle East countries (UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan). By 2030, exports will amount to at least 60,000 tons. This is about 10% of the production volume, which will help stabilize the market.
The expert also paid attention to the issue of turkey consumption in Russia. Since 2013, it has been growing by an average of 24% per year - from 0.8 to 2.7 kg per person. In plans to increase this figure to 5 kg. This is real, as the demand for turkey increases by 14% annually due to an increase in the number of buyers and the frequency of purchases.
Anatoly Velmatov formulated the main trends in the development of enterprises in the industry.
Bringing key performance indicators to the best industry genetic values. The weight of a turkey is more than 13 kg, a turkey is more than 20 kg, feed conversion is less than 2.7 kg.
Development of deep processing - delicacies and semi-finished products.
Development of export potential - expansion into new markets in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, as well as investment in freezing, storage and packaging capacities.
To achieve the planned plans, by 2030 it is planned to build new production facilities with a total capacity of at least 200 thousand tons of meat per year, as well as first and second order reproducers. At least 30% of the increase is planned to be achieved through the development of medium and small enterprises.
