All news / Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the creation of the National Center for Genetic Resources of Farm Animals

A National Center for Genetic Resources of Farm Animals will be created on the basis of the Federal Research Center for Animal Husbandry - VIZH named after Academician L. K. Ernst. The corresponding decree of the President of the Russian Federation was published on the official portal of legal information.

Among other things, the center’s specialists will create and update a national catalog of particularly valuable samples of genetic resources of farm animals; develop methods for obtaining, storing and using these samples; monitor the state of genetic resources, search and select new samples.

The government must determine the scope and financing of activities related to the creation of the center within four months. Six months are given to develop and approve the development program, it follows from the document.

The Interdepartmental Commission on the Formation, Conservation and Use of Collections of Genetic Resources of Farm Animals will coordinate the activities of the center. The commission will include representatives of federal executive authorities, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute, according to another presidential decree.
