  • 24 Feb 2022, 10:15

Vyacheslav Nikonov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Chairman of the Board of the Russkiy Mir Foundation, commented on reports of possible Western sanctions against Russian parliamentarians, Nikonov's press service reported.

Earlier, Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the situation, reported that EU diplomats were discussing sanctions against 351 State Duma deputies in connection with Russia's recognition of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR), as well as against 11 Russians who proposed this initiative.

''The response will follow any of their sanctions,'' the deputy stressed.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the recognition of the independence and sovereignty of DPR and LPR and asked the Federal Assembly to support this decision. He also demanded that Kiev immediately cease hostilities in the Donbass.
