On June 22, in Moscow, as part of the MVC: Cereals-Compound Feeds-Veterinary-2023 exhibition, a scientific and practical conference was held dedicated to new legislative norms and innovations in modern veterinary medicine.

The event was attended by Director of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Maria Novikova, Deputy Head of the Department for Organization of State Supervision in the Sphere of Circulation of Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use of the Rosselkhoznadzor Marina Osyanina, Executive Director of the National Veterinary Association Timur Chibilyaev, Head of the Vetbioprom Association Yury Barsukov, Deputy Director of the Department of Sanitary, Phytosanitary and veterinary measures of the EEC Vladimir Subbotin, Deputy Director of the FGBU VGNKI Vasilina Gritsyuk, Director of the FGBNU VNITIBP Alexei Zaberezhny, Executive Director of the VIC Group Sergey Kasparyants and representatives of other domestic manufacturers of veterinary drugs.

Director of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia Maria Novikova noted that it is necessary not to technically replace foreign products, but to develop domestic production of veterinary drugs, since the country's food security is ensured exclusively by Russian organizations.

Over the past 3 years, domestic companies have registered a record number of new drugs - more than 100 products are brought to the market annually.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, there are 2,214 veterinary drugs in total, of which 1,339 (60.5%) are domestically produced, and this number will continue to grow.

Leading Russian manufacturers of veterinary medicines in 2023 can increase production in monetary terms up to 23.6 billion rubles. In 2021, this indicator was equal to 14.5 billion rubles, in 2022 - 18.2 billion rubles.

Sergey Kasparyants, Executive Director of the VIK Group of Companies, presented the analysis of the domestic veterinary market and the prospects for import substitution.

According to Sergei Kasparyants, Russia is in the TOP-5 meat producers: in 2014, a huge breakthrough was made in terms of market shares and development continues very quickly.

At the end of 2021, domestic companies were included in the rating of international manufacturers of veterinary drugs, which proves their ability to compete with the world's chemical pharmaceutical giants.

As for the structure of the Russian veterinary drugs market for 2023, antibiotics are the most import-independent segment – 52% of drugs are produced by Russian companies.

Based on the statistics of the last four years, VIC Group experts analyzed the achievement of import independence - if the industry continues to develop at the same pace as now, Russia will reach the required values: for antibacterial - by 2028, vaccines - by 2032, hormones - by 2040, coccidiostatics - by 2113, antiparasitics - perhaps never.

The executive director of VIC Group noted that domestic manufacturers are introducing new production sites and registering new drugs, but this is not enough, more substantial and systematic assistance is needed. “With proper measures of state support, the level of import independence in the Russian veterinary industry can be increased from the current 44 to 85% by 2027,” Sergey Kasparyants believes.

Also, within the framework of the exhibition "MVC: Grain - Compound Feed - Veterinary - 2023", a working meeting was held with the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council on Agrarian and Food Policy and Environmental Management Sergey Mitin with the participation of the Executive Director of the National Veterinary Association Timur Chibilyaev, General Director of the National Union of Poultry Breeders Sergey Lakhtyukhov , General Director of the National Union of Pig Breeders Yury Kovalev, Advisor to the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia Tatyana Sevastyanova, Exhibition Director Yury Katsnelson, as well as the leaders of the VIK Group - General Director of VIK - Animal Health LLC Victoria Violina, General Director of VIK Group of Companies Alexander Kasparyants and Executive Director GK VIC Sergey Kasparyants. The meeting participants discussed the current problems of the veterinary industry, options for strengthening support for the veterinary industry and the challenges of import substitution.

During the discussion, possible state support measures were structured to help solve the problem of accelerated import substitution: the selection of the most significant enterprises of the industry, members of the National Veterinary Association, Vetbioprom, ARRIAH, into a separate list of domestic companies with specialized support measures; development of measures to accelerate the commissioning of new production sites by these enterprises and new veterinary drugs.
