American journalist Tucker Carlson, who recently interviewed Russian President Vladimir Putin, was surprised by the prices of food in Russian stores. He stated that food prices in Russia are 4 times lower than in the United States. The American spoke about this in a video he recorded during his grocery shopping.
“We thought it would be interesting to look at a modern grocery store in Russia in 2024, 2 years after the introduction of sanctions,” Gazeta.Ru quotes the words of an American journalist.
Tucker Carlson chose a hypermarket from one of the large federal chains. In his cart he put enough food for a week for a family of four.
In total, the American journalist bought 44 units of goods. Among the purchases were chicken, fruits and vegetables, bread, milk, cheese, sausage, pasta, herbs, flour, Crimean wine, coffee.
At the checkout, the interviewer paid 9,481 rubles 37 kopecks (about $104). According to Tucker Carlson, in the United States you would have to pay about $400 for a similar set of products, that is, 4 times more.
