According to the “Analysis of the duck meat market in Russia”, prepared by BusinesStat in 2023, in 2020-2022, its sales in the country increased by 3.1 times and amounted to 35.5 thousand tons in 2022. The driver of sales growth was the growing interest of Russians to non-traditional types of poultry meat for the domestic market, since the market for traditional chicken meat has almost reached saturation.

The rapid growth in sales in 2020-2022 is also explained by the fact that this growth was of a recovery nature. In 2019, the level of sales of duck meat was very low - 11.5 thousand tons, which is 41% less than in 2018. The drop in sales in 2019 was due to a sharp decrease in supply due to the exit of the industry leader, Donstar LLC, from the market. In 2018, several outbreaks of bird flu were recorded at the enterprise. In the second half of 2018, the company began to receive reports of a shortage of working capital, which led to the termination of the company's activities in 2019 and subsequently to its bankruptcy.

In 2020-2022, the supply of duck meat on the Russian market not only recovered, but also increased relative to 2018. In 2019, the production of duck meat began at Ulybino (Novosibirsk Region) and Tsentralnaya (Vladimir) poultry farms. In 2020-2022, these enterprises significantly increased production volumes. In 2020, another producer entered the Russian duck meat market: production at the production base of Donstar LLC was resumed by Damate Group of Companies, which created the New Duck Farms company for this purpose.

The additional volume of supply met the corresponding solvent demand, as a result of which duck meat sales in 2020-2022 grew at a rate of 19.3-78.6% per year.

According to BusinesStat, the production facilities commissioned in 2020-2022 will further increase the production and sales of duck meat in Russia. However, such rapid growth as in 2020-2022 should not be expected. Sales will be limited by such factors as the high price of duck meat compared to chicken meat and competition with other types of poultry meat (turkey, goose).
