In the first half of 2020, Russia was one of the 3 poultry meat exporters to China. To cement this position and further develop exports, sales channels should be strengthened and the product range expanded, including high value added products, according to experts of Cherkizovo Group.
Entering the Chinese market in 2019, Russian poultry companies took advantage of the shortage in the internal market of China and earn a solid position among poultry exporters. From the fifth position at the end of 2019, Russia advanced to line three among the countries exporting poultry meat to China in the first half of 2020. However, further success of Russian companies may be undermined by the growth of domestic production in China and the return of other major suppliers (such as the U.S.) to the Chinese market, as stated by Andrey Terekhin, head of the export department of Cherkizovo Trading House, during the online session "Export of Russian Poultry Products to China: a Strategy for Success".
"Given these more challenging conditions, we will have to take more efforts for development in the Chinese market, particularly capturing the niches of premium, high-margin products. We’ve got to make this quantum leap," the expert believes.
