For the sixth year running, Cherkizovo Group (Cherkizovo, Petelinka brands) has topped the ranking of Russia’s largest meat producers. The ranking was put together by Agroinvestor, a leading industry publication.
The Agroinvestor magazine has hosted the Russian Meat & Feed Industry conference, where it presented the 2020 ranking of Russia’s largest meat producers. Cherkizovo Group was the first on the list, having produced 884,000 tonnes of slaughter weight (up 54,000 tonnes or 6.5% y-o-y).
The Group's higher output in 2020 was driven by robust domestic demand for its products and also by the growth of exports, primarily to markets across Southeast Asia and the CIS. The Group increased its chicken meat production by 3.7% to 794,000 tonnes (hereinafter in live weight) and pork production by 6% to 302,000 tonnes. Tambov Turkey, a joint venture between Cherkizovo Group and Spain’s Grupo Fuertes, stepped up its production by 39% during 2020, reaching 57,000 tonnes.
As at the end of 2019, Cherkizovo was 22.4% ahead of Miratorg, its closest competitor (according to Agroinvestor, Miratorg produced 722,000 tonnes of slaughter weight in 2019). Ranked third was the Resource Group of Companies, which produced 591,000 tonnes of slaughter weight. Bringing up the rear of the top 5 industry leaders according to the magazine were Agrocomplex named after N. I. Tkachev (361,000 tonnes of slaughter weight) and Prioskolie (326,000 tonnes of slaughter weight).
