The Xiang Mahan company from China, which built an enterprise in Elista for the deep processing of meat and meat products worth over 1.5 billion rubles, intends to additionally invest 1 billion rubles in the project to increase production volumes. The head of the region, Batu Khasikov, reported this to TASS on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

“Our republic occupies a leading position in the number of small and large livestock in Russia, so the choice of Kalmykia as an investor is logical. Together with Chinese partners, we are completing the Xiang Makhan investment project for the deep processing of meat and meat products. The volume of investments in the constructed enterprise exceeded 1.5 billion rubles, in addition to this, another 1 billion rubles will be invested to implement the second stage of the project to increase processing volumes, that is, the total capacity of the plant will be 17 thousand tons of meat per year,” he said.

The first line of the enterprise is planned to be launched in the summer; the plant will process meat from both cattle and small cattle. This will create about 150 jobs, Khasikov specified.

“Thanks to state support for SMEs and the implementation of an individual program of socio-economic development, we have created a number of local meat processing enterprises in the region, they are operating successfully. Our fellow countrymen are now making delicious stews, sausages, semi-finished products and so on, which are famous outside the region. During the Soviet years Kalmykia enterprises were popular throughout Russia, and with the support of our partners from China, we will revive the former glory of the republic as a manufacturer. The launch of the Xiang Makhan enterprise is another step towards the implementation of the agrarian-industrial model of development of the region that we strive for." , - added the head of the region.

Kalmykia is a predominantly agricultural republic, where 80% of gross agricultural output comes from livestock farming. Meat from the steppe region is known for its exceptional taste far beyond its borders; it is valued by gourmets. In Kalmykia, natural grazing of animals is practiced in the steppe, where there are more than two hundred species of grass. Due to the hot sun, they turn into a natural concentrate of useful substances, with a minimum of excess moisture, which provides the meat with taste and aroma without the use of any industrial technologies.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum takes place from June 5 to 8.
