Nearly 800 cattle have been killed following a record-low cold spell that has raged across the northern region, officials said.

These details were revealed in the latest report by the Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention (CSCDP).

Quang Ninh Province topped the list of 11 affected localities, with 217 cattle found frozen to death, followed by Lao Cai Province, where most tourists had flocked to Sa Pa Town to see the snow. The province saw 174 cattle die from the extreme weather, out of the total 773 cattle deaths reported in the region, reports VNS.

Nearly 3,000ha worth of vegetables and another 217ha of short day plants were also ruined in the cold snap, the CSCDP said.
