Don sheep breeders presented their achievements at the XXII Russian exhibition of breeding sheep and goats, which was held from May 24 to 28 in Volgograd. This year, 62 sheep breeding organizations from 13 regions of the country took part in the exhibition. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia Andrey Razin, The DairyNews was told in the press service of the government of the Rostov region.

The Rostov region was represented at the event by six sheep-breeding enterprises: from Remontnensky, Milyutinsky and Morozovsky districts. The official delegation of the Don region was headed by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Konstantin Rachalovsky.

Experts evaluated more than 330 show animals in terms of conformation and productivity. According to the results of the competitive selection, the tribal organizations of the region received 11 medals, including four gold, three silver and four bronze. In addition, the exhibition animal of the peasant farm "Elite" from the Remontnensky district was recognized as the champion of the Soviet Merino breed.

In particular, four gold awards were given to show animals from the breeding reproducer for breeding sheep of the Soviet Merino breed of KH "Elita", the breeding farm "Podgornoye", as well as the ram of the Volgograd breed from the breeding reproducer of LLC "RKZ "Resource" of the branch "Milyutinskiy" and commodity farms of RKZ Resurs LLC of the Belyaev branch for breeding sheep of the southern meat breed.

Silver and bronze awards were also awarded to farm animals of the stud farms of the Kolkhoz PZ Pervomaisky and the SPK PZ Mir.

- “Sheep breeding has always been a traditional industry for the eastern regions of the Don,” emphasized Konstantin Rachalovsky, “To preserve and increase the gene pool of sheep in the Rostov region, there are 12 breeding sheep breeding organizations, including five breeding factories and seven breeding reproducers in which Salskaya sheep are bred , Tsigai, Stavropol, Volgograd breeds and Soviet merino. More than 83 million rubles were allocated to support the development of the sheep breeding industry on the Don in 2021. This year, funding has increased by almost 3 million, amounting to about 86 million rubles.”

As part of the business program of the exhibition, seminars, master classes on grading and classifying wool, round tables on the development of sheep breeding, equipment, technologies, protective equipment, feed, product processing and scientific support of sheep breeding, as well as a competition of national farmsteads and a review of art groups regional initiatives.

The Rostov region at the exhibition presented a thematic kuren and a folk ensemble of the Cossack song "Cossacks of the Don" of the Zimovnikovsky district.

During the exhibition, the awarding of enterprises and workers of the agro-industrial complex of the Rostov region was also held. So, the challenge prize of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia named after the Hero of Socialist Labor Veniamin Snegovoi for achieving high performance in breeding, mastering advanced technologies in breeding sheep breeding was awarded to KH "Elite" from the Remontnensky district. A number of awards were given to Don livestock breeders by the National Union of Sheep Breeders, the Exhibition Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Rostov Region.
