In 2023, Russians will continue to actively consume chicken eggs; it is predicted that total consumption will be more than 42 billion pieces. This number remains roughly the same as last year, when 46.1 billion eggs were consumed. The Rospoultry Union, an organization that unites Russian poultry enterprises, notes that the country will produce enough eggs to satisfy the domestic needs of the population.
Galina Bobyleva, director of Rosptitsesoyuz, said that consumption is expected to be 288 pieces per capita per year. This number has remained stable in recent years, indicating a constant demand for eggs among Russians. In 2010, consumption was 270 pieces per capita, and in 2017, 2019 and 2022 this number increased to 279 and 288 respectively.
However, despite stable consumption, egg prices continue to rise. Since the beginning of the year, they have risen in price by 46%, and the weekly growth rate is not slowing down yet. This is due to several factors, including increasing production costs and rising costs of poultry feed.
President Vladimir Putin drew attention to rising prices and noted that one of the reasons is the lack of timeliness in solving problems in the industry. He emphasized the need to take measures to stabilize the situation and reduce prices for eggs and chicken meat.
Additionally, it is worth noting that about 10% of egg production is used for incubation. This means that additional eggs are required to breed birds.
Overall, egg consumption in Russia remains stable, but rising prices pose a challenge for consumers. Future measures to stabilize the situation and support the industry could help reduce prices and ensure the availability of eggs for all Russians.
