On May 25, within the framework of the 90th annual General session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), based on the results of consideration of the dossier submitted by the Rosselkhoznadzor, a decision was made to officially recognize Zone 5 "Far East" free from FMD with vaccination.
Zone 5 includes the Amur and Khabarovsk Regions, the Primorsky and Trans-Baikal Territories, and the Jewish Autonomous Region. The features of this territory include a long land border with countries that are unfavorable for FMD, primarily with China and Mongolia.
To maintain OIE recognized free zones, the following must be observed:

- conditions for the movement of animals susceptible to foot-and-mouth disease (large and small cattle, pigs, camels) and a number of other goods obtained from them (including meat and milk).
Confirmation of the new status became possible as a result of many years of painstaking work carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Rosselkhoznadzor, scientists of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "ARRIAH" subordinate to the Service, state veterinary authorities of the country's constituent entities.
In addition, within the framework of the General Session, the freedom statuses for rinderpest, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, bovine spongiform encephalopathy for the territory of Russia as a whole and a number of zones for foot-and-mouth disease (with and without vaccination) were confirmed.
