Dr Evgeny Nepoklonov, Vice-minister at the Ministry of Agriculture in Moscow has reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease at a farm located in Zabaykalsky Krai, affecting cattle.
The outbreak reportedly started on 1 February and later confirmed on 9 February after a reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test was carried out at the All-Russian Research Institute for Animal Health (FGBI-ARRIAH), reference laboratory for the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
The OIE received an immediate notification on Monday, 12 February, stating that the causal agent was found to be the FMD virus, serotype O.
According to the report received, 85 animals were found to be susceptible as well as infected. However, none of the animals have been euthanised or slaughtered.
