In the first half of this year, Russian food supplies abroad may exceed imports for the third time in recent times. In exact figures, the positive balance (in this case, the difference between exports and imports) for these products in 2020 amounted to a billion dollars, and in the past it was already 2.8. Also, according to the agency, in the first half of this year, our country increased exports by 20-22 percent compared to the same period last year. Over the past year, the latter accounted for 59 percent of food products and raw materials for their production. These products have been supplied to 151 of the more than 190 existing countries. At the same time, 15% of sales were in the EU countries.
The report also refers to the high activity of exporters. The growth of export sales over the past year was noted by almost 61 percent, and this year by 46 percent of suppliers. The decline occurred against the backdrop of sanctions and anti-sanctions between our country, as well as the West and their partner countries, which caused a number of problems, including with logistics. However, exporters said they plan to increase performance even in such difficult conditions.
This year, according to the agency's expectations, agricultural production in the country will return to a positive trend. They predict the growth of the industry by 0.5-1.5 percent compared to last year, when production decreased by 0.9. Prior to this, agricultural production also declined and increased in leaps and bounds. In particular, in 2018 it fell by 0.2 percent from 2017, and in the next two years it increased by 1.3 and 4.3, respectively. This trend can be explained by the same “cold war” with Russia, since sanctions and counter-sanctions were introduced, stopped and resumed exactly at about an annual frequency.
