Food prices in Russia in October 2022, compared to October 2021, show a significant increase. AB-Center analyzed the dynamics of 121 products, of which fifteen products show a decrease. The weakening of prices for 15 products is definitely a positive trend, since in the previous article, when comparing data for September 2021-2022. we noted a decrease in prices for eleven foodstuffs.
In October 2022, in relation to the level of a year ago, an increase in food prices of more than 25% is observed in 20 products, more than 10% in 92 products.
It should be noted that inflation in the country for the year (if we compare October 2021 and October 2022), according to the inflation calculator on the level-inflation.rf website, amounted to 13.88%. Rising prices above the inflation rate demonstrates 75 goods out of 121.
The strengthening of prices in the Russian market is largely due to global trends. In 2022, global food prices peaked. Although in 2023-2024. and some weakening is expected, with a high degree of probability, prices will no longer return to the level that was noted in 2020-2021.
Leaders in rising food prices
To a greater extent, the increase in prices for the year, according to AB-Center, affected the following food products: margarine (+42.3%), canned tomato (+39.9%), sweetened condensed milk (+36.5%), biscuits (+33.7%), natural coffee beans and ground (+33.2%), polished rice (+32.8%), frozen squid (+32.6%), granulated sugar (+32, 3%), frozen vegetables (+31.7%), table salt (+30.7%), muffins and rolls (+29.8%), chocolate-glazed curds (+29.8%), gingerbread (+29.8%), marshmallows and marshmallows (+29.4%).
Food products showing price increases above the inflation rate of 13.88%

Food products whose prices rise below the rate of inflation
Price growth below the inflation rate (lower than 13.88%), according to AB-Center, was noted for dumplings, manti and ravioli, nuts, chocolate, coffee in fast food organizations, frozen cut fish (except for salmon species), minced meat meat, salmon caviar, domestic, domestic sparkling wine, grape table wine with a strength of up to 14% vol. alcohol, live and chilled fish, buckwheat groats, sausages and sausages, lamb (except for boneless meat), semi-smoked and boiled-smoked sausage , turkey meat, olive oil, fortified grape wine with a strength of up to 20% vol. alcohol, boiled sausage, raw smoked sausage, chicken legs, fresh mushrooms, whole frozen fish, smoked meat, vodka with a strength of 40% vol. alcohol and above, ordinary domestic cognac, natural bee honey, fresh herbs, sunflower oil, apples, millet, boneless pork.
Food items that have decreased in price over the year
Over the year, the price of fresh white cabbage (-44.4%), potatoes (-32.6%), table beets (-28.8%), carrots (-27.2%), fresh tomatoes (-22. 9%), fresh cucumbers (-20.9%), lemons (-12.0%), garlic (-9.8%), grapes (-8.9%), oranges (-8.8%), onions (-7.7%), pears (-6.3%), chicken eggs (-1.9%), chilled and frozen chickens (-0.6%), pork (except for boneless meat) (-0 ,one%).
About the recent decline in food prices
In this article, only the change in prices for the year is considered. If we consider the current data and compare them with the indicators of a month ago, we see a significant weakening of prices for most types of food products.
