Food prices in Russia in December 2022, compared to December 2021, show a significant increase. AB-Center analyzed the dynamics of 121 products, of which only 15 products show a decrease. In December 2022, in relation to the level of a year ago, an increase in food prices of more than 25% is observed in 13 products, more than 10% in 85 products.

It should be noted that inflation in the country for the year (if we compare December 2021 and December 2022), according to the inflation calculator on the level-inflation.rf website, amounted to 12.84%. Price growth above the inflation rate is shown by 71 goods out of 121.

The strengthening of prices in the Russian market is largely due to global trends. In 2022, global food prices peaked. Although in 2023-2024. and some weakening is expected, with a high degree of probability, prices will no longer return to the level that was noted in 2020-2021.

Leaders in rising food prices

To a greater extent, the increase in prices for the year, according to AB-Center, affected the following food products: margarine (+36.6%), canned tomato (+36.2%), sweetened condensed milk (+33.1%), natural coffee beans and ground (+31.7%), biscuits (+30.6%), table salt (+28.1%), chocolate-glazed curds (+27.7%), gingerbread (+ 27.7%), frozen vegetables (+26.7%), marshmallows and marshmallows (+26.5%), muffins and rolls (+26.2%), bananas (+26.0%), frozen squids ( +25.3%.

Food products showing price increases above the inflation rate of 12.84%

Food products whose prices rise below the rate of inflation

Price growth below the inflation rate (lower than 12.84%), according to AB-Center, was noted for sour cream, bread made from rye flour and from a mixture of rye and wheat flour, salted herring fillet, poultry culinary products, chocolate, lamb (except boneless meat), domestic sparkling wine, grape table wine with a strength of up to 14% vol. alcohol, frozen cut fish (except for salmon species), beef liver, dumplings, manti and ravioli, live and chilled fish, fresh mushrooms, fortified grape wine with a strength of up to 20% vol. alcohol, minced meat, nuts, wheat flour, sausages and sausages, oranges, turkey meat, olive oil, whole frozen fish, semi-smoked and boiled-smoked sausage, fresh cucumbers, boiled sausage, raw smoked sausage, vodka strength 40% vol. alcohol and above, chicken legs, lemons, fresh herbs, smoked meats, natural bee honey, ordinary domestic cognac, onions and apples.
