The share of imported poultry meat in Russia is expected to drop to 7% this year, compared to 10% in 2014, the head of the executive committee of the National Meat Association, Sergey Yushin has indicated.
Experts suggest that reducing the supply of chicken meat from abroad has had a positive impact on the domestic market and the prices on chicken will decline.
Increased poultry production efficiency
"In general, we can say that the growth and production of poultry will continue. The production efficiency is increasing, largely due to the growing competition between Russian manufacturers. This year the volume of imports will not exceed 7%," Yushin stated.
In turn, the expert of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies Daniel Khotko stated that by the end of the year, prices for meat will rise slightly, which is connected primarily with the seasonal factor.
Seasonal jump in poultry prices
"There is a seasonal jump in poultry prices before the New Year. But it is traditional: the producers slightly raise the price tags before the holidays because people are buying a lot of meat," confirmed Khotko.
Analysts from the Russian SovEcon consulting agency have indicated that Russia, for the first time since 2004, will see a reduction in the domestic market of poultry and meat which will drop from 10.8 million tonnes to 10.5 million tonnes.
