During the meeting of the State Duma, Russian prime-minister Mikhail Mishustin reporting on government activities in 2021, announced the plans of the government to allocate an additional 5 billion rubles for the development of domestic selective breeding.

“We have built state-sponsored selective breeding centers, 32 for seed and 3 for animal breeding. This year we will additionally allocate not less than 5 billion rubles at the direction of the president,” said the prime-minister.

Mikhail Mishustin expressed hope that these funds will allow for covering the needs of Russian farmers in selective breeding products.

The prime-minister pointed out the significant growth and development of the country’s agricultural industry. We managed to achieve 100% self-sufficiency in grain, seed oil, meat and fish, and 80% in dairy and vegetables, with the largest part of these products being produced at small productions and private backyard farms.

The government keeps supporting farmers. For instance, 340 billion rubles have been allocated to support the agricultural sector and fishery, summarized the prime-minister.
