Beef meat production is a very promising industry not only for the domestic market of Russia, it has a very large export potential, said Roman Kostyuk, director of the National Union of Beef Producers (NSPG) of Russia, on November 18 as part of the round table "Problems of beef cattle breeding in Russia", organized by APK Expert ".
The development of beef cattle breeding can give Russia an increase in jobs in depressed and remote regions of the country, where there is no opportunity to build industrial enterprises. The meat industry can increase the employment of the population, the director of the NSPG said.
“If we confirm the need for these jobs by developing Russia’s export potential in beef production, and we have a huge number of neighbors in need of beef meat: Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey, all these countries, one way or another, are ready to buy and live cattle, and beef meat, but we don't have it. Russia today does not produce beef even to meet domestic demand,” said Kostyuk.
Recall that in Russia, out of the total volume of meat imports, the share of beef is about 40%, which is about 250-300 thousand tons of meat per year. The main suppliers of meat to Russia are: Belarus, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Kazakhstan, Uruguay.
