In 2023, Russia will experience an increase in the production of main types of agricultural products. According to Rosstat, in January-December 2023, the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in live weight increased by 3.1%, meat - by 3.1%, milk - by 5.6%, eggs - by 1.8%.
Increase in meat production
Meat production in Russia increased by 3.1% compared to last year, to 13.29 million tons. The most noticeable growth is observed in the production of pork (6.5%) and cattle (6.9%).
Increase in milk production
During the reporting period, milk production increased to 20.05 million tons, which is 5.6% more than in 2022. This is due to an increase in the productivity of the dairy herd and an expansion of the feed supply.
Increase in egg production
Egg production in Russia also showed positive dynamics, increasing by 1.8% to 38.056 billion pieces. The main players in this market are poultry farms, which are expanding production and increasing the efficiency of their work.
Analysis of livestock dynamics
The number of cattle in farms of all categories decreased by 2%, to 7.774 million heads. This is due to an increase in live cattle exports and rising feed costs. The poultry population also decreased by 0.9% to 464.928 million due to bird flu outbreaks. In turn, the number of pigs increased by 3% and amounted to 26.378 million at the end of December.
Factors contributing to the growth of agricultural production
The growth of agricultural production in Russia is due to a number of factors, including:
state support for the agricultural sector;
increasing investment in agriculture;
development of agricultural technologies;
favorable climatic conditions.
Forecasts for the future
Agricultural production in Russia is expected to continue to grow in 2024. This is due to the further expansion of sown areas, increased livestock productivity and increased government subsidies to agricultural producers.
