In 2022, the world export of agro-industrial complex products broke a record, exceeding $2 trillion for the first time. According to ITC Trade Map data*, compared to 2021, the value increased by 7.4%.
Among the largest suppliers of food and agricultural raw materials, Russia took 17th place, increasing its share to 2.1%. At the same time, among the top-20 states, Russia demonstrated the largest increase in the volume of exports of agricultural products over the past 10 years - by 2.5 times.
According to the results of 2022, Russian agricultural exports increased by 12% to 41.6 billion dollars. Including the revenue from Russian export sales of grain increased by 18%, oil and fat products - by 25%, meat products - by 23%, food products and processing industry - by 1.6%. At the same time, shipments of fish and seafood decreased by 12% compared to 2021, and dairy products decreased by 1.9%.
In 2022, the top 20 supplier countries accounted for 69.8% of world food exports. In 2021, according to updated data, this share was 67.9%.
The position of the largest exporter of agricultural products is retained by the United States, which increased sales to foreign markets by 9.1% to $193 billion. Brazil rose to second place, which managed to increase shipments by 35% to $135 billion. The Netherlands fell from 2 to 3rd place ($121 billion, +1.6%). Germany and China are also among the top 5 world suppliers.
Among the countries importing agricultural products, the first place is also occupied by the USA, with an import volume of 233 billion dollars (+15% compared to 2021). According to the results of last year, China took second place ($224 billion, +7.2%). The first five largest food buyer states also include Germany ($117 billion, +3.7%), the Netherlands ($84 billion, +5.6%) and Japan ($83 billion, +8.6%) .
Significant changes occurred in the structure of global food exports last year. Grain crops took the leading position with a share of 8.8%. In 2022, revenue from world grain exports increased by 16% to $178 billion. Fats and oils rose to the second place in terms of revenue, where growth was recorded by 18% to $173 billion. Meat production fell in the structure of world agricultural exports to third place ($163 billion, +7%).

Russian companies have adapted to the new reality - they have rearranged logistics routes and financial calculations with counterparties. The state, for its part, adjusted the conditions for providing state support and directed its efforts to maximum assistance to business. Thanks to joint work, Russian agro-industrial complex companies continue to increase their presence on the world food market, ensuring uninterrupted supplies and making a significant contribution to solving the problems of global food security," emphasized Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Sergey Levin.
