As of the end of April this year, the number of pigs in the farms of all agricultural producers increased by 5.4% compared to the end of April 2022 and reached 28.7 million heads. This is stated in the Rosstat report “The Socio-Economic Situation in Russia” based on the results of January-April 2023.
“At the end of April 2023, the number of cattle amounted to 17.9 million heads, which is 0.5% less compared to the corresponding date of the previous year. Including cows - 7.7 million heads (0.4% less). The number of pigs - 28.7 million (5.4% more), sheep and goats - 21.9 million (1.1% less),” the report says.
In the structure of livestock, households account for 39% of cattle, 6.7% of pigs, 44.8% of sheep and goats. At the end of April last year, 39.8% of cattle, 7.9% of pigs and 45.2% of sheep and goats were raised in the households of the population.
In agricultural organizations, there is an increase in the number of livestock by 0.5% compared to the data at the end of April 2022. Including cows increased by 0.2%, pigs - by 7%, sheep and goats - by 2.8%, poultry - by 1.1%.
“In January-April 2023, farms of all categories produced 5 million tons of livestock and poultry for slaughter (in live weight), 10.1 million tons of milk, and 15 billion eggs,” the report says.
