All news / India cuts supplies of beef to Russia - Saint Petersburg remains the main buyer

The share of Indian beef in the total beef supply to the Russian market is steadily declining. At the end of 2019, the total volume of beef imports (HS Code 2021-2020) to Russia reached 293,659 tons. Of these, 18,200 tons (6.2% of total imports) were supplied by India. In 2020, the share of Indian products in the imported beef market in Russia decreased to 4.8% (12,330 tons out of 255,548 tons).

According to the results of the first 9 months of 2021, beef supplies from India to Russia reached 7,050 tons, which is 14% lower than last year's level.

The leading buyer of beef in India in 2021 was the Northwestern Federal District, which purchased 42% (2,127 tons) of the total imports of Indian cattle meat to the Russian Federation in the first 7 months of 2021. The second place is taken by the Far East with the volume of imports at the level of 1,820 tons (36%). Another major buyer was the Central District - 1,092 tons (22%).

New Delhi predicts that buffalo / beef meat exports from India will reach 1.5 million tons in 2022, an increase of 125,000 tons or 9% over 2021 amid increased exports to the Middle East (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates) and South Asian markets (Hong Kong, Philippines and Malaysia).
