Northern Kazakhstan reported seven outbreaks of avian influenza, said the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Thursday.

According to Reuters, Kazakhstan reported seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic bird flu in backyards and villages in the northern part of the country near the Russian border, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said on Thursday.

The outbreaks killed a total of 1,763 birds and involved the H5 serotype, the OIE said, citing the Kazakh agriculture ministry.

According to the OIE documentation, the source of the outbreak or origin of infection was "contact with wild species." The local measures applied include:

• movement control inside the country
• vaccination in response to the outbreak (s)
• screening
• quarantine
• zoning
• disinfection

The locations of the outbreaks were as follows:

• Sukhorabovka
• Chkalovo
• Chistovskoe
• Novorybinka
• Yakor
• Chernobayevka
