All news / Livestock production in Russia increased by 0.1% in 2023 - Rosstat

At the same time, crop production fell by 1.1%, and overall agricultural production at the end of the year decreased by 0.3%, reports the annual report of Rosstat.

The production volume of agricultural products from all manufacturers in 2023 amounted to 8341.3 billion rubles, which is 0.3% less than in 2022.

In particular, indicators in crop production decreased. The gross grain harvest amounted to 142.6 million tons, which is 9.5% less than the previous year, reports Rosstat.

At the same time, sunflower production increased by 2%, and beet production decreased by 5%. Potatoes showed positive dynamics; their gross yield increased by 8.7% due to increased yields. The vegetable harvest increased by 1.3% due to an increase in harvested areas.

In the livestock segment of agricultural organizations, at the end of December 2023, the number of cattle decreased by 2.1%, poultry - by 1%. Only the number of pigs increased by 3%.

In total, 16.5 million tons of livestock and poultry were produced for slaughter in Russia in 2023, which is 2% more than in 2022. 46.7 billion eggs were also produced, an increase of 1.2%, as calculated by Rosstat.

As for the sale of agricultural products, sales of grain and basic livestock products by all agricultural producers increased last year. Farms of all categories sold 106.4 million tons of grain, which is 10% higher than the 2022 figure. 6.3 million tons of potatoes were sold, an increase of 2.4%. Sales of vegetables decreased by 1.8% to 6.8 million tons. Sales of livestock and poultry increased by 3% to 15.2 million tons.
