This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation during the panel discussion "Russia on the world market of organic products: how to take a leading position", held as part of the XXIII Russian Agro-industrial exhibition "Golden Autumn - 2021".

According to him, certified domestic organic products recently began to appear on the Russian market, so "the legal framework was quickly prepared," certification bodies were created, including the Autonomous non-profit organization Russian Quality System with an initiative team.

The speaker said that at the moment more than 88 large, medium and small producers of organic products have received certification in the country. Moreover, it is very important that regional leaders began to show great interest in the cultivation and processing of such products.

‘The Government of the Russian Federation has set us an ambitious task for the development of organic agriculture,’ said the official. ‘We understand that this is a growth point for the agro-industrial complex, as well as for exports. Therefore, our department is working on a strategy for the development of organic agriculture in the Russian Federation, where a whole section will be devoted to supplies abroad.

As the speaker explained, the development strategy of Russian organic agriculture includes several directions. The first is the introduction into circulation of agricultural land suitable for organic cultivation. For this purpose, the corresponding state program has been adopted. Secondly, state standards are being prepared for the introduction of "organic" specialties in agricultural universities. According to the official, most of the 54 agricultural universities "are involved in this work." Their graduates will participate in the production of organic products and work in certification bodies to fill the gap currently available in the shortage of specialists.

‘It is very important that we adopt a strategic document that will give us the opportunity to plan the development of Russian organic agriculture, provide for state support measures that will make this branch of the agro-industrial complex attractive for business participation,’ said the expert. ‘I think that all these prerequisites should create the necessary conditions for the cultivation of organic products by domestic producers, have export guidelines.’

According to the speaker, the strategy for the development of Russian organic agriculture provides for "additional difficulties" for entering the world market, including organizational ones. He said that next Saturday he plans to visit an agricultural exhibition in Cologne and meet the representatives of the German Ministry of Agriculture and German certification bodies there.

‘It is important for us to agree with them once again in order to gain access to the export market, to achieve mutual recognition of organic products,’ said the Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. ‘A certification system has already been built in Russia, it has already shown its viability, and we are ready for our products to be recognized. I think this will be another good step for the development of the organic industry, which will become one of our export directions.’
