In the Russian Federation, meat can rise in price sharply - by 50-100% at once. And not because something is wrong with production, but solely through the fault of the authorities. Officials began to test the mechanism to ban the so-called "farm slaughter" of cattle and drive all producers to "certified" slaughterhouses.
The experiment began in the Altai Territory, the local authorities issued a corresponding circular, and the market counters were immediately empty. Prices soared one and a half times, people began to worry.
“The farmers know the price of meat, no one will give it away for a song,” Alexander Metzler, head of the veterinary department for Biysk and the Biysk region of the Altai Territory, cynically commented on the current situation with prices.
Citizens stock up on meat for a reason, farmers, with whom local officials started the war, provide more than 60% of supplies in the region. And if the local administration continues to tighten the screws, meat may disappear altogether from the rations of the Altai.
Apparently, in this distant region, the federal authorities decided to "test" the technology for the destruction of "private" meat farms. If it works out, the people will endure everything, it will be possible to start a "war" throughout the country. Fortunately, the experience already exists - several years ago, under the pretext of combating the African swine fever (ASF), hundreds of thousands of animals were destroyed in the central regions of Russia. First of all, at the private farms.
At that time, the authorities clearly acted in the interests of large producers, in particular the holding, which rumors associate with one of the highest officials in the state hierarchy. Undoubtedly, the new “run over” on small and medium-sized meat producers to the holding and others like it also plays into the hands. But, in this case, it is worth digging deeper. Just the other day, there was information that the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Agriculture are working on the issue of introducing duty-free imports of pork and beef to Russia!
For reference: even in the past, in 2020, the general director of the National Union of Pig Breeders, Yuri Kovalev, said that we no longer need the import of pig meat; at the end of 2019, the Russian Federation became fully self-sufficient for this product. According to data for 2020, pork imports decreased to 8.3 thousand tons against 91 thousand tons a year earlier, in the current 2021 it fell almost to zero.
Moreover, the issue of increasing EXPORT deliveries, including to non-CIS countries, was considered. At the end of 2021, they are projected at the level of 250 thousand tons and above, this is a new record.
With beef, the situation is worse, self-sufficiency is only 85%. However, this meat is consumed less. According to the Rosselkhozbank's Center for Industry Expertise in the spring of 2021, 44% of meat consumption in Russia is poultry, 36% is pork, the remaining 20% is lamb, beef and any different types of meat. Moreover, the popularity of lamb (2-3% of consumption) is growing, and the supply is also increasing.
About a quarter of all pork produced in the Russian Federation and 65% of beef in our country are grown by farmers and so-called “households”, in a number of regions these figures are even higher. Thus, if they destroy these economic entities, then they can arrange another large-scale robbery of the population. Banning slaughterhouses and duty-free imports are the tools to do just that.
The scenario is pretty simple. With the help of imports and all sorts of laws and orders, all small and medium-sized livestock raising will be destroyed, and large producers will raise prices. And we all have to pay.
