Meat imports increased by 39%.  Pork imports increased most significantly in August against the background of a low base.

In August, imports of meat and by-products from non-CIS countries increased by 39.3% compared to July, amounting to $ 68.8 million, reports Federal Customs Service. Pork supplies increased the most in percentage terms - if in July they were almost zero ($ 0.04 million), then in the last month of summer they amounted to $ 0.7 million. Beef imports also increased - from $ 27.7 million in July to $ 46.3 million in August. At the same time, the supply of poultry meat from non-CIS countries decreased from $ 10 million to $ 9.5 million.

Despite the growth in meat imports, it turned out to be 31.4% less than in August last year. Pork imports decreased the most - by 93.4%, a year ago supplies of this type of meat reached $ 10.5 million. In August 2019, beef imports were at $ 62.8 million (for the year decreased by 26.2%), meat poultry - $ 10.7 million (minus 10.6%).

Import of $ 0.7 million in commodity terms is only about 350-400 tons of pig products - this is an extremely small volume, the Director General of the National Union of Pig Growers (NSS) Yuri Kovalev commented.
