Traditionally, before the May holidays, meat is becoming more expensive due to the growing demand for barbeque/kebabs season, said Irina Epifanova, deputy head of the control department of the agro-industrial complex of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia.

"Before the May holidays and for the whole summer period, meat traditionally rises in price because of the growth in demand during the barbeque season," she said.

Yepifanova noted that fruits and vegetables also increase in price, but this cannot be called a characteristic feature of the period before the May holidays. At the same time, the antimonopoly service did not receive any complaints about the rise in prices of meat, vegetables and fruits.
