On March 10, a working meeting was held at the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia with members of the Committee on Agrarian Issues of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev told the deputies about the current work and plans of the department for the development of the agro-industrial complex, and also answered questions from legislators related to supporting farmers, regulating the food market, and improving the quality of life in rural areas.

As the head of the Ministry of Agriculture noted, the most important task now is the quality of spring field work. At present, they are entering the active phase, which generally corresponds to the average multi-year period. Winter crops are fed on an area of 3.3 million hectares. Spring sowing started in 6 regions and was carried out on 157 thousand hectares. The total sown area in 2023 will increase slightly and exceed 82 million hectares.

By the time they enter the fields, each subject is provided with full readiness of seeds, equipment, fuels and lubricants, plant protection products.

The Ministry of Agriculture, for its part, controls this issue, including within the framework of the operational headquarters. “At the moment, the sowing campaign is proceeding normally. We hope that it will be completed on time and will create the foundation for the future harvest,” Dmitry Patrushev said.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, Russia's food security is fully ensured, while the situation in the world dictates the task of increasing the import independence of the agricultural industry. This primarily concerns seed production and poultry farming.

In this regard, the Ministry of Agriculture is stepping up work within the framework of the FSTP - a new version of the program has been prepared, adapted to today's realities, including target indicators. State support has also been strengthened - since this year, the amount of compensation for CAPEX for the construction of breeding and seed centers has been increased from 20% to 50%.

To maintain the stability of the domestic market, a set of regulatory measures is applied to certain types of agricultural products and mineral fertilizers. Dmitry Patrushev also provided the deputies with information on the financing of various areas of the agro-industrial complex and the state support measures in force in 2023.
