Ministry of Agriculture: there is no shortage of meat in Russia

According to Rosstat, in the first half of 2021, agricultural organizations of the country produced 5.9 million tons of livestock and poultry meat for slaughter. These figures are comparable to those for 2020. Further production growth is expected.

In addition, the volume of industrial production of meat increased to 1.5 million tons (+ 0.7%), chilled meat and meat-containing semi-finished products - up to 2.1 million tons (+ 11.9%), sausages - up to 1.2 million t (+ 3.2%).

On July 7, the head of the NMA Sergei Yushin on the air of the radio station "Moscow speaking" said that the citizens of Russia are experiencing a lack of animal proteins due to low incomes.

“Today there are a lot of people with low incomes who are catastrophically short of animal protein. On average, Russians consume meat very rationally - 77 kg of meat and meat products per person per year. This is much lower than in a number of other countries, less than in rich countries, but this is not a sufficient norm” , Yushin said.
