Pork consumption in Russia over the past year increased by 3.2% or more than 140 thousand tons. The main reason is that the increase in prices for pork, according to Rosstat, turned out to be lower than the increase in prices for other types of meat. Its general director, Yuri Kovalev, spoke about the state of the market in the meat industry in his speech at an extended meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Union of Pig Breeders.
The total increase in consumption of pork and poultry ensured an increase in consumption of all types of meat by 2%. At the end of last year, pork consumption exceeded 30 kg per person and exceeded 38% of total meat consumption. Over the past 8 years, annual per capita meat consumption has increased by 13% and reached 81 kg/person per year. At the same time, pork consumption alone increased by almost 33%.
In the first half of 2024, the total increase in consumption of pork, beef and poultry will ensure growth in the entire meat industry by almost 3.4%. In the overall basket of consumption growth, the increase specifically for pork will be 6%. The main reason is still the same – maintaining the price trend.
“The AGROEKO company closely follows consumer accents - we are increasing production volumes, trying to realize the potential of our new meat processing enterprise. Along with the growth in production volumes, we are expanding our product line and segmentation into various price categories: from standard affordable products to the premium line - DUROC,” said Vladimir Maslov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AGROEKO Group of Companies.
The results, plans, achievements and role of pig farming in the meat industry were discussed at an extended meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Union of Pig Breeders. The event was organized at the leading meat processing plant AGROECO in the Pavlovsky district of the Voronezh region. About 40 guests gathered here: members of the NSS Board of Directors, owners and managers of pig-breeding holdings, as well as representatives of federal departments and regional authorities.
