All news / Novosibirsk Region: the ban on beef export may last until spring

  • 01 Oct 2020, 10:42

The news portal Vesti Novosibirsk with reference to TASS reports that the lack of vaccination of cattle against FMD may become the basis for a long ban on the export of unprocessed beef from the Novosibirsk region.

According to the regional veterinary office, restrictions may last until spring 2021, which meets the requirements of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). Experts drew attention to the fact that we are talking about the export of raw meat: the products of its processing are not subject to restrictions.

Rosselkhoznadzor changed the status of the Novosibirsk region, recognizing it as a zone free from foot and mouth disease without vaccination, but the status has not yet been confirmed internationally. The OIE will be able to consider the portfolio of the region only in March-April next year, when the next meeting of all members of the organization will take place.

Vaccination campaigns aimed at preventing a highly contagious viral disease in the Novosibirsk region have been suspended since August last year to recognize the entire territory of Russia as free from foot and mouth disease.
