This was stated by the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jambulat Hatuov at the 10th annual general meeting of the National Union of pig producers, which was held in Moscow.
As it was noted during the event, at present the pig breeding industry in Russia is actively developing, being competitive and attractive for investors. Over the past 7 years, pig production has increased 1.5 times by 1.6 million tons. The positive trend continued this year: for 5 months, the production of pigs in live weight in agricultural organizations amounted to 1.73 million tons, which is 5.9% or 97 thousand tons more than in the same period of 2018.
Dzhambulat Hatuov stressed that the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia attaches exceptional importance to the development of animal husbandry, while the pig breeding plays a special role, since it is the leading segment of meat production all over the world.
High growth rates allowed increasing the self-sufficiency of pork in our country to the level of 99.5%. At the moment, the industry is facing an important task of moving from accelerated import substitution to increasing supplies abroad and entering new markets, the first deputy minister said.
The export of Russian pork is growing annually, while the potential in this area remains substantial, and the volume of supplies can be multiplied. Among the strategically important target markets for Russia are countries in the Asian region: China, Japan, South Korea and others.
