Prices for chicken eggs in Russia have increased significantly in recent months, and their strengthening continues. This is facilitated by a number of factors (a switch in demand for relatively cheap animal protein in the context of rising meat prices, an increase in the cost of egg production in the context of ruble devaluation, seasonal factors - price increases are observed annually from September to March, only due to the seasonal factor in this period prices in Russia they are strengthening annually by more than 20%).
However, despite rising prices, wholesale prices for chicken eggs in Russia remain among the lowest in the world.
AB-Center recalculated world prices for chicken eggs into rubles at the rate of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (the monthly average rate was calculated as the arithmetic average of daily values).
In October 2023, wholesale prices for chicken eggs in Russia, according to Rosstat, amounted to 71.8 RUB/dozen. In neighboring Kazakhstan, prices were at 75.3 RUB/dozen. In the USA they amounted to 100.5 RUB/dozen, in Brazil - 84.1 RUB/dozen, in China - 78.8 RUB/dozen.
Thus, egg prices in Russia are lower than in neighboring countries and in the largest producing and consuming countries.
Note. Different sources of information present prices in different units of measurement. The US Department of Agriculture publishes statistics in cents per dozen by month, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture - in yuan per kilogram by week, CEPEA - prices in Brazil in packages containing 30 boxes of a dozen eggs in US dollars by week, in the Bureau of National Statistics ASPR RK - in tenge per tenge by month. In order to compare prices, we, using calculations, brought them to a single form - in rubles per ten by month. The full version of the study presents the values over time for 2018-2023. - both in US dollars and in rubles.
