All news / Retail trade turnover in Russia grew by 12.7% in October

In Russia, in October 2023, retail trade turnover in annual terms increased by 12.7%, Rosstat reported.The result turned out to be better than the Interfax consensus forecast, which assumed an increase of 11.4%.Compared to the dynamics in September, the growth in turnover accelerated. Then the increase in the indicator was 12.2%.

In January-October, retail trade turnover increased by 5.5% compared to the same period last year.

Retail trade turnover of food products, including beverages, and tobacco products increased by 5.3% year on year in October, while in September the growth was 5.7%. Over the 10 months of this year, trade in food products increased by 2.6%.

The growth in non-food retail turnover in October accelerated to 20.2% (+18.6% in September). In January-October the figure increased by 8.4%.

At the end of October, in the structure of retail trade turnover, the share of food products was 46.4%, non-food products - 53.6% (in October 2022 - 49.8% and 50.2%, respectively).

In nominal terms, retail trade turnover in October 2023 amounted to 4 trillion 239.7 billion rubles, in January-October - 38 trillion 270.9 billion rubles.

Retail trade turnover in the country fell by 6.7% in 2022. The consensus forecast of economists surveyed by Interfax in early October on the dynamics of retail trade for 2023 suggests its growth by 5.9%.
