Food prices in Russia continue to rise, with the most notable increases in October being the prices of eggs and chicken. According to Rosstat, since the beginning of the year, food prices have risen by 5.3%, and by the end of October 2022 - by 6.5%. However, these figures do not take into account the prices of alcoholic beverages, which also continue to rise. Let's look at the reasons for the stagnant rise in prices for eggs, chicken and other food products, and also look for possible solutions for consumers.
Eggs were one of the most notable products that rose in price in October. Compared to September, their prices increased by 13.1%. Since the beginning of the year, the rise in price was 18.7%, and in annual terms – 23.9%. One of the reasons for this growth may be an increase in costs for poultry maintenance, feed and energy resources. Also, agricultural enterprises may encounter problems in the production of feed crops, which affects the cost of poultry feed.
Chicken prices also increased significantly in October. Over the past month, prices have increased by 3.7%, since the beginning of the year - by 29.1%, and compared to October last year - by 26.8%. This growth is explained by several factors. First, rising costs of poultry feed, including grains and soybeans, could impact the final price of chicken. Secondly, the rising costs of keeping and caring for poultry, including vaccinations and maintaining safety standards, can also affect the price.
In addition to eggs and chicken, some types of fruits and vegetables have also become more expensive. For example, prices for tomatoes increased by 31.1%, garlic by 8.5%, bananas by 5.8%, oranges by 3.6%, and grapes by 2.1%. However, some vegetables, such as potatoes, cabbage, carrots, apples, lemons and beets, have fallen in price. This may be due to seasonality and fluctuations in the production of these vegetables and fruits.
In light of rising food prices, many consumers are wondering how to cope with this challenge. One possible solution is to find alternative sources of nutrition, such as cheaper meats or replacing eggs with plant-based foods. It is also worth paying attention to seasonal products, which may be more affordable.
Rising food prices in Russia, especially eggs and chicken, are a significant problem for consumers. This increase may be due to increased costs of production and animal husbandry, as well as fluctuations in the production of fruits and vegetables. To improve the situation, consumers can look for alternative food sources and pay attention to seasonal products.
