Over the past year, Russia set a record for the production of edible chicken eggs. Rosptitsoyuz reported this on its Telegram channel.

The message does not provide exact figures, but it is reported that the figure was a record since 1990 and the highest for the second year in a row. Some successes were noted in agricultural organizations, which increased production by about 20 percent, despite the difficult epizootic situation in poultry farming. The union’s report also predicts that this year the figure will increase by 1.4 billion units from the 2021 level. According to the union, per capita consumption of goods has also increased, which today amounts to more than 285 units per year. Our country ranked sixth in the world in this indicator.

Such achievements in the organization were explained by the systematic development of the industry due to state support, as well as measures to improve the safety of enterprises. For example, domestic poultry farmers are already receiving grants and subsidies to compensate for direct costs of construction, development and modernization of complexes involved in the creation of breeding material for domestic poultry farmers, compensation for logistics and marketing costs for exporters, and risk insurance programs for poultry farmers. Let us also recall that in December last year the Ministry of Agriculture began to provide preferential loans to producers of broilers and their processed products. Also, the Government and industry representatives have taken measures to stabilize prices for this product and prevent shortages. In particular, work is underway to conclude long-term contracts with retail chains for its supply. The organization believes that to reduce the risks of price speculation, the share of such agreements in total sales should be at least 75 percent. Previously, at the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture, duty-free imports were opened for friendly countries under a quota of 1.4 billion eggs, and domestic producers promised to increase their own capacity for these products.

The authorities also took measures to provide technical support to the industry. In particular, work has been intensified to improve the biosafety of poultry farms, including providing the domestic market with vaccines. The Government also supported the initiatives of some specialized enterprises to implement investment projects related to the construction and modernization of new production facilities and poultry farm infrastructure within the framework of preferential lending.
