The growth drivers of the Russian agro-industrial complex in the coming years will be industries in which the market is not yet saturated. Andrey Dalnov, head of the Center for Industry Expertise of the Russian Agricultural Bank, spoke about this in an interview with Veterinary and Life. In particular, there is potential to increase the production of vegetables and fruits, for which we are still “behind record levels of consumption”.
But the meat market will not become a driver for the growth of the agro-industrial complex: meat consumption per capita in Russia is 77-78 kg, the expert noted. “Of course, its consumption will increase, we see this in investment projects, but, probably, meat will not be a driver,” Dalnov quotes Veterinary and Life.
The expert called the products of the fishery complex, as well as grain and oilseeds and their processed products as traditional drivers of the export direction. “These products are not enough in the world market. I think that due to these traditional drivers we will grow well,” he said.
Dalnov also named the dairy industry, in particular, the production of cheese, butter and milk powder, as a driver for the growth in exports of agricultural products. The expert believes that we should expect an increase in the supply of these products to foreign markets. He also sees prospects in the export of meat. Last year, about $1 billion worth of meat was exported from Russia. The expert named China and other countries of Southeast Asia, as well as the states of Africa and the Middle East, as promising countries for increasing supplies.
Last week, at the site of the Golden Autumn agro-industrial exhibition, Dalnov said that the weather factor, along with demand, supply, the interests of individual market players and industry groups, as well as other significant elements, affects the food market. As an example, he cited viticulture, which occupies more and more eastern territories. According to Dalnov, the influence of weather factors can be corrected, including with the help of irrigation systems and the application of certain fertilizers. However, crop production is still highly dependent on the weather, and these technologies can only slightly mitigate its impact.
In mid-August, specialists from the Rosselkhozbank ecosystem for farmers "Svoye Farming" named four key drivers of the agro-industrial complex for the next three years. These included the development of livestock and crop genetic and breeding areas, the creation of new types of organic fertilizers and plant protection products, digital services for the agro-industrial complex in the field of precision farming, as well as the development of online trade.
