Since February, the Rosselkhoznadzor has been imposing restrictions on the supply of finished meat products to Russia from 15 Italian enterprises, follows from the message of the regulator.
It notes that, according to the European information system ADIS, in 2022, 6795 foci of African swine fever (ASF) were detected among wild and domestic animals in the territory of the European Union. Including in Italy, 280 cases of the disease were recorded, with only 17 cases in 2021.
In December 2022, Rosselkhoznadzor, due to the risk of introducing ASF to Russia through finished meat products that have not undergone sufficient temperature treatment, turned to Italian colleagues with the initiative to inspect enterprises that have the right to supply these products to the Russian market. However, both this and the repeated request from the Italian colleagues did not receive a response, the agency notes.
"In the absence of dialogue, in accordance with the legislation of the EAEU, the Rosselkhoznadzor is forced from February 1, 2023 to restrict the import of finished meat products into Russia by 15 Italian enterprises that have the right to export," the report says.
