There is no increase in food prices in Russia due to the depreciation of the ruble, said Dmitry Vostrikov, executive director of the Rusprodsoyuz association.

"At the moment, there is no increase in the cost of products due to the exchange rate," he said.

Vostrikov noted that the exchange rate directly affects the cost of products imported from abroad, such as tea, coffee, imported fruits and vegetables. In addition, many food industry enterprises operate on imported equipment and machinery, use imported raw materials, packaging materials and food ingredients.

"The growth of the exchange rate certainly causes an increase in the costs of producers due to the foreign exchange component, which is present in different categories of goods. Today, as always, food producers will try to curb growth as much as possible at the expense of their own resources," he stressed.

The final price dynamics on the shelf will depend on the duration of the current trend and on the willingness of retail chains, following the manufacturers, to contain or reduce their margins, Vostrikov added.
