  • 30 Jun 2020, 10:56

The Rosselkhoznadzor banned the supply of live pigs and pig products from Nigeria. Restrictions introduced since June 25, 2020.

It is clarified that the reason for the ban on pork imports from Nigeria was the deterioration of the epizootic situation in African swine fever (ASF) in this country. The restrictions also apply to finished products from pork, slaughter products, with the exception of meat products that have undergone processing, which guarantees the destruction of the virus. It is also forbidden to import raw materials from this meat, which is used for the production of feed. In addition, restrictions apply to the importation of live pigs, the embryos of these animals and the semen of boars.

According to The Guardian, referring to the data from farmers, in Nigeria the largest outbreak of ASF in the history of the country is observed, about one million pigs are destroyed.
