Russia ranked first in Europe and second in the world in turkey production in 2022. For the first time, Russian turkey breeders have overtaken producers from Poland and Germany, which in recent years have firmly held leading positions in the European market. At the world level, the traditional leader remains the United States.
An analysis conducted by the consulting agency AGRIFDUOD Strategies based on statistical data from the largest turkey producing countries and industry sources showed that in 2022, domestic turkey breeders provided Russia with the first place in Europe and the second in the world in terms of production.
Industrial enterprises, private farms and private farms in Russia produced 415 thousand tons of turkey meat last year, for the first time overtaking the traditional industry leaders in Europe - Germany (406 tons), Poland (409.2 tons), France (244.9 tons) and Spain (231.9 tons). At the world level, the United States traditionally leads, which produces almost half of the world's turkey meat.
Over the past decade, domestic turkey production has shown a phenomenal five-fold increase, while in most countries - traditional producers of turkeys, there is an average decrease of 10-20 percent. This became possible due to the significantly increased demand for turkey meat in Russia as one of the most useful types of meat, its physical and economic accessibility for consumers, and the actively developing export of turkey products.
In 2022, Russia became the largest supplier of turkey meat to China, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, ahead of the United States, Poland, Chile and a number of EU countries, and the export volume amounted to 26,000 tons with a total value of $70 million.
This year, AGRIFOOD Strategies predicts a further increase in turkey production in Russia by 10% to 440-450 thousand tons, and by 2030 - up to 600-650 thousand tons, which will significantly strengthen the position of domestic producers in the world market.
