Russia extends food import sanctions until 2022

The ban on the import of food products, agricultural products and raw materials continues to apply to the USA, EU countries, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Iceland, Ukraine, Norway, Liechtenstein, Albania.

The import ban came into effect in 2014 in response to anti-Russian sanctions from the US, EU countries, Norway and Australia. The food embargo affected meat, sausages, fish, seafood, vegetables, fruits, dairy products.

Preparations for the extension of the sanctions from January 1 to December 31, 2022 began in September after the corresponding decree of Vladimir Putin.

To a certain extent, the sanctions stimulated the country's food industry. In particular, the consumption of cheese in the country last year exceeded 800 thousand tons. The share of imports was 312 thousand tons, the rest - Russian-made cheeses. Also, Russian products began to receive awards at international competitions. The most popular are curd, semi-hard and hard cheeses, according to the consulting agency GfK.
