To stabilize prices for chicken and other poultry meat, Russia began purchasing them from neighboring friendly countries such as Belarus and Kazakhstan. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dmitry Patrushev, spoke about this at yesterday’s meeting between President Vladimir Putin and the Government.

This was the answer he gave to the head of state to his proposal to import these products from their closest neighbors in order to avoid their rise in price. The minister noted that this measure will help balance the market. At the same time, he assured that there are no special economic prerequisites for increasing the cost of this meat on the Russian market today. Patrushev explained that poultry farmers showed their social responsibility and promised to reduce prices. “I hope that we will see this soon,” the minister added. Thus, this measure will play the role of reinsurance. We also note that it helps preserve the necessary reserves of meat in case of shortage.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko also expressed hope for a reduction in prices, explaining this by a possible increase in production by three percent at the end of the year. On this issue, Patrushev said that in August it decreased slightly. However, in general, over eight months, according to him, the figure was even higher than for the same period in the past.

According to Rosstat, prices for poultry meat have increased by 28.47% since the beginning of the year. Market experts named among the reasons for the rise in price a shortage of personnel in the industry, rushing demand for poultry meat and the difficult epizootic situation with bird flu in Russia itself and in the world. The statistical agency also reported that the production of chilled poultry meat decreased in September by 4.1 percent from the same month last year and by 1.8 percent from August this year, respectively.
