Russia is actively increasing the export of live cattle and has almost completely abandoned the import of agricultural products from unfriendly countries. This was stated by the head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
According to Dankvert, in 2022, Russia supplied 90 thousand heads of cattle, about 200 thousand pigs and 150 thousand rams to neighboring countries. The total export volume of live cattle in live weight was about 660 thousand tons.
Dankvert also noted that Russia has almost completely abandoned the import of agricultural products from unfriendly countries. Half of the imports of agricultural products come from the Republic of Belarus, the rest from Brazil and a number of other friendly countries.
The head of Rosselkhoznadzor emphasized that Russia began to diversify the import of agricultural products in the early 2000s, when it became clear that the United States and Europe could impose sanctions against Russia. Thanks to this policy, Russia was able to reduce its dependence on imports of agricultural products from unfriendly countries.
Dankvert also said that Russia mainly imports products that are not produced or grown in the country. These are, first of all, citrus fruits and bananas. Therefore, according to the head of Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia does not depend on the import of agricultural products from unfriendly countries.
Refusal to import agricultural products from unfriendly countries and increasing the export of live cattle are important steps in the development of Russian agriculture. These measures help improve the country's food security and reduce dependence on imports.
