The Russian livestock industry has shown steady growth in meat and milk production in recent years.

The country is already fully self-sufficient in basic meat products and covers a significant part of domestic consumption of dairy products. This year the positive trend is expected to continue.

In January 2022, the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter by agricultural organisations increased by 7.8% to 997.8 thousand tonnes, compared to the same period last year. Pork production increased by 6.1%, cattle by 7.1%, and poultry by 9.4%. Milk production reached 1.53 million tonnes (+2.5%) and eggs production was estimated at 2.77 billion eggs (+2.1%).
