On July 14, the Russian-Japanese Dialogue was personified by the deputy ministers of the agrarian bodies of Russia and Japan, Sergei Levin and Makoto Osawa, who discussed the prospects of expanding bilateral fish and agritrade
In January-May 2020, compared with the same period last year, the agricultural turnover has been increased by 14% and amounted to $86 million, whilst Russian deliveries over the specified period increased by 21% (up to $67 million). The key items of Russian exports to Japan are frozen fish, crustaceans, corn, wheat and meslin.
“Russian grain export potential is growing much, so, due to geographical proximity of our countries, we consider expanding trade in grain and leguminous crops as fairly promising,” stated Sergey Levin.
In this regard, the parties scrutinized the matter of further increasing the Russian grain export totals. Special attention was paid to the grain mission to Russia for Japanese government officials and business executives interested in importing Russian products. Olga Garshina, the head of the Department of External Relations at OZK JSC, assured that Russian party is ready to arrange a visit to Novorossiysk deep-sea grain terminal, which is the largest in our country, in order to trace transshipment, and one of the south regions to observe harvesting and grain storage system. Russian grain crops may also go to Japan through the Far Eastern sea terminals, for example, the port of Zarubino in the Primorsky Territory or the port of Vladivostok.
The event also dealt with accessibility of both national agrimarkets, particularly in terms of poultry, beef and pork, dairy products. The parties appreciated large-scale and fruitful work performed by Russian and Japanese veterinary services granted the mutual access of livestock products.
The deputy Minister of Agriculture of Russia thanked his Japanese colleagues for clarifying the veterinary and sanitary requirements for Tula and Bryansk poultry to be shipped to Japan, and also for approving the veterinary certificate for Russian heat-treated milk and dairy products with Japanese destinations.
