The Russian Association of Plastic Processors reported that there are no problems with casings for sausages and sausages in the country, about 60% of which is plastic. Market participants denied the information about the shortage of casings for the production of sausages and frankfurters. According to representatives of the Russian Association of Plastic Processors, the segment is completely covered by Russian manufacturers, and the remaining types of casings are provided by suppliers from China, which also completely replaced the volumes imported from Europe.
Earlier, there were reports in the media that, against the backdrop of sanctions restrictions, there was a shortage of casings for the production of sausages and sausages, and due to the need to purchase it in China on a prepaid basis or through parallel imports, manufacturers are forced to stock up almost a year in advance, so costs increased by 25 -70%. The RAPP also denied the existence of problems with supplies from China.
The Union of Plastic Processors (PUP) also noted that the modern production of sausages mainly uses an artificial casing, which is divided into three main types: plastic, cellulose and protein (collagen). According to them, in 2022, 2.4 million tons of sausages were produced in the Russian Federation: 59% were plastic casings, 15% protein casings, 17% cellulose / fibrous casings, and only 9% natural casings.
In addition, Russia is fully self-sufficient in terms of plastic casing, there is even some capacity surplus. The largest manufacturers are Atlantis-Pack, Biostar and Florex, which together completely cover all the needs for this type of casing. Belkozin produces collagen casings in the Russian Federation, SPP noted that at the moment its capacity is not enough to saturate the domestic market, but manufacturers from China, which is the world's largest producer of this type of casings, have completely replaced European suppliers in this segment.
